FAQ

What do the verdicts mean? LOOKING GOOD, MIXED CONDITIONS and NOT LOOKING GOOD, MATE summarise the general outdoor weather. They are not advice to do any particular job and not a safety guarantee.

Where does the forecast come from? Up to four sources: MET Norway, the Met Office, WeatherAPI.com and Apple Weather. We show the middle (median) value and how many sources agree. "Single source" means only one forecast was available for that figure.

What does the rain chance label mean? 0–24% Low risk, 25–49% Low–medium, 50–74% Not looking great, 75–89% Raincoat weather, 90–100% Stay-in-bed territory. It describes rain risk only.

Why a cold weather warning? If the forecast air temperature may drop below 3 °C in the next 24 hours, we flag it. Ground and surfaces can be colder than the air, so frost is possible but never guaranteed.

Does the app show Met Office weather warnings? Not yet. Please check the official Met Office warnings page; the app links to it.

Is my location stored? No. See the Privacy Policy.

Something looks wrong? Email us the town or postcode, the time, and a screenshot.

The hourly forecast

Why can a day say LOOKING GOOD with a high rain chance overnight? The verdict and the 7-day rain % cover working hours (7am–7pm). When rain falls outside those hours the app says so, for example "Rain likely overnight and early morning (00:00–06:00); 07:00–19:00 looks mostly dry."

What is forecast consensus? For the day you're looking at, the app checks each hour from 8am to 4pm and asks whether the available forecasts broadly agree on rain or no rain, temperature (less than 3 °C apart) and wind (less than 12 mph apart). High means all compared hours agree, Medium at least 60%, Low fewer. If too few hours can be compared it says “Not enough data”, never “disagreement”. Forecasts agreeing doesn't make them right, and several share the same underlying weather models. The verdict, rain summaries and best weather window use the working day, 7am–7pm.

Why does it show tomorrow in the evening? Once today's working hours (7am–7pm) have passed, the app shows tomorrow's hours and verdict. Tap "Today" above the hourly strip to see the rest of tonight, or tap any day in the 7-day list.

Why is there no hourly detail for some days? The forecast providers only give hour-by-hour data a few days ahead. For later days we say so and show the daily forecast instead. We never fill in hours that the providers didn't supply.

What does "–" mean? That figure wasn't supplied by any forecast. It is never treated as 0% or dry.

Why does search show a map? When you pick a place from search, the app shows it on a small Apple map so you can check it is the right town before you use it. Tap "Use this location" to confirm.

"Saved forecast" or "Offline"? If the app can't get a fresh forecast it shows the last one saved on your phone and says how old it is and why. An old saved copy is never shown as LOOKING GOOD.
